Australia v Italy Rugby match at Suncorp Stadium
Saturday, June 24th
15:00 local (05:00 GMT)
This match is at the Suncorp stadium in Brisbane.
Australia will be looking to end their June Test series on a positive note as they host Italy on Saturday.
The Wallabies will be desperate to get a win after the disappointing 24-19 loss to Scotland in Sydney last weekend.
The side received heavy criticism from the Australian media & fans, with 111 supporter’s enraged facebook post going viral. Coach Michael Cheika has also pinned the letter on the team’s notice board as a message to his players.
He has delivered on his promise to ring the changes in the aftermath of that morale-sapping loss.
Stephen Moore returns to the squad. Lopeti Timani, Rob Horne & Sefa Naivalu will play their 1st Tests of the series. They replace Scott Higginbotham, Tevita Kuridrani & Eto Nabuli.
Furthermore, Scott Sio’s minutes late in the game verses Scotland were enough to prove his worth as a run-on prop. He was with Allan Alaalatoa for the 1st time in a Wallabies Test.
Rory Arnold has usurped his club captain Sam Carter for a spot in the 2nd row, reuniting with Adam Coleman, after the pair became a regular duo in 2016.
Italy has never defeated the Wallabies & the last time the sides met was way back in 2013. The Azzurri are in a similar situation to the Wallabies, also coming off the back of a shock win in a match they were favourites to win, going down 22-19 to Fiji post a last-gasp Ben Volavola drop-goal.
The previous weekend they were dismantled by the Scots 34-13 only a few months after same side defeated them 29-0 in the 6 Nations.
It’s a clash between 2 sides with low squad morale. But beware of the wounded animal (they say) so expect the players on the pitch to be fighting to prove their worth.
Players to watch
Bernard Foley missed a conversion & a penalty while he was unable to spark his backline into life. World-class players show the world by how they come back. We also have Tatafu Polota-Nau & Tolu Latu knocking on the door.
Michele Campagnaro is not used to be on the losing side at club level. He will try to do his best to get his team over the line here. Also, lock Dean Budd is a player you must not miss. He made fifteen tackles last weekend verses Fiji (the highest number of anyone in the Italy side) & will need to replicate the same verses a Wallabies side boasting an array of attacking threats.
Australia won 50-20 in Torino in the year 2013.
From 2006-date, Australia has always won.
The venues they won are Firenze, North Shore City, Melbourne, Padova, Rome.
Australia will bounce back in this one.
