It will be played at the Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium.

Group B

The leaders of group B is Japan. They will want to keep distance with Saudi Arabia and also Austrailia. If they manage to do so, they will ease some of the pressure off themselves. June 13 (today), Japan play Iraq and the opportunity is here to do so.

Today, if Japan come victorious against Iraq, it would move the Samurai Blue 3 points clear at the top of the group & put them back in pole position for an automatic qualification place for Russia 2018.

In the month of March at the Saitama Stadium, Japan protected a comfy 4-0 victory over bottom placed Thailand. They continued their 6 match undefeated run after a shock opening group home defeat to the UAE, thus taking them nearer to a 6th straight FIFA World Cup appearance.

The Hosts Iraq, play at their adopted home at the PAS Tehran Stadium.  However, they eliminated after a 1-0 defeat to the Saudi Arabia team in Jeddah. The result of this was that Radhi Shanaishel lost his job as the 2007 AFC Asian Cup champs lost 5 of their 7 Group B matches.

The coach of 2016 AFC Cup winners Air Force Club Basim Qasim takes responsibility for remaining 3 group QF games.

Team news

Japan suffered a big blow with Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa pulling out after being ruled out post dislocation of his shoulder only 9 minutes into a 1-1 friendly draw with Syria in Tokyo.

For them, their left back Dhargham Ismail misses out owing to a long-term injury whereas Sweden-based midfielder Brwa Nouri of Östersunds FK recalled to the team.
